China's electric vehicle charging infrastructure is growing rapidly.
According to data released by the National Energy Administration on November 19, as of the end of October 2025, China had a total of 18.645 million electric vehicle charging points, an increase of 54 percent year on year, and the construction of the charging network continues to accelerate.

In terms of structure, public charging facilities reached 4.533 million, up 39.5 percent, with total power exceeding 200 million kilowatts and an average power of about 44.69 kilowatts per charging point. Private charging facilities reached 14.112 million, up 59.4 percent, with a total installed capacity of 124 million kilovolt amperes, reflecting fast growth in household charging demand.
To support the continued development of the new energy vehicle industry, six departments including the National Development and Reform Commission recently issued the Action Plan for Tripling Electric Vehicle Charging Service Capacity from 2025 to 2027. The plan states that by the end of 2027, China's charging facilities will total 28 million, with public charging capacity exceeding 300 million kilowatts. This will meet the charging needs of more than 80 million electric vehicles and double the overall service capacity.

Charging facilities are a key support for the development of new energy vehicles. According to the plan, China will upgrade public charging facilities, build an urban charging network with fast charging as the main option and slow charging as a supplement, and add high power charging where needed. Charging points along expressway service areas will be increased, coverage will extend to rural areas, and charging services will be strengthened during peak travel periods such as the Spring Festival.
For residential areas, the plan requires that all parking spaces in new housing projects be built with or prepared for charging installation. Existing communities will add charging facilities according to local conditions, and pilot programs for unified construction and management will be promoted to further improve the charging experience for residents.
